The Kiwis were a happy bunch on the morning flight from Hamilton.

After landing in Wellington, the venue for the fifth ODI, experienced Kiwi paceman Kyle Mills shared his thoughts with the media at the airport.

Asked about the continuation of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), Mills said it was a vital factor in keeping the international programme going.

“It gives us a chance to play the big teams on a regular basis. It also gives us a chance to play the lesser teams.

Trust in NZC

“I am sure New Zealand Cricket and the players’ association will do what is good for the team.”

On New Zealand gaining a winning 3-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series, Mills said, “We targeted the Indian batsmen with short-pitched deliveries. We bowled to a plan.”

The 34-year-old paceman, who has 233 wickets at 26.81 in 164 ODIs, said: “It was a tremendous triumph against the top-ranked ODI team.

“We have been doing well in the past two seasons in the ODIs. We scored series wins over South Africa in South Africa and England in England.”

Bowling as a unit

Mills said: “It was not easy bowling on small grounds here. But we bowled as a unit. Kept the pressure up.”

On his canny bowling in the fourth ODI — he bowled at different phases including at the death and finished with 10-2-42-1 — Mills said he tried to mix things up and keep the batsmen guessing.

“We are looking to win the series 4-0. That will be huge for us,” Mills signed off.
