Australia batsman David Warner’s turbulent tour of England has come to an end after he was dropped for the upcoming one-day series because of poor recent form in the format.

Cricket Australia says fast bowler Mitchell Starc will also return Down Under earlier than expected because of “some lower back soreness.”

Warner missed the majority of the Champions Trophy and the first two tests in the Ashes series after being suspended and fined for punching England batsman Joe Root in a late-night, bar-room incident in Birmingham.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann says “David would acknowledge that unfortunately he hasn’t scored the weight of runs that he would like recently in one-day cricket for his country.”

The five-match ODI series against England starts Friday in Leeds.
