Three years after he left India midway through a cricket series due to a “stress-related illness,” former England opener Marcus Trescothick will return to the country for the Champions League Twenty20 as part of a 15-member Somerset team.

“Marcus Trescothick is in the squad as he continues to fight and overcome the problems with travelling abroad to play cricket he has experienced as a result of his stress-related illness,” his club said in a statement.

Trescothick had abruptly left the tour of India in 2006 and was later found to be suffering from depression. He quit international cricket two years later in 2008.

Retired Australian opener Justin Langer will lead Somerset, who are drawn with Deccan Chargers and Trinidad and Tobago in the group phase of the inaugural event scheduled from October 8 to 23.

Somerset will play its first match against the Deccan Chargers on October 10 in Hyderabad. They will also face Trinidad and Tobago on October 12 in Bangalore.
