Ironical, as it may sound, the BCCI has been denied tax exemptions following its gesture to support other sports. The revelation came from Mr. Rajeev Shukla, a senior Board official and the Chairman of the IPL during a function here on Tuesday.
“We gave Rs. 50 crores to the sports ministry and also wanted to help country’s football. But later, the government denied us tax exemptions saying we cannot provide financial support to other sports. We suffered financial loss because it wanted to help other disciplines,” said Shukla.
Answering another question, Shukla reiterated that the Board had not made it mandatory for any player to play in all forms of the game. “If a player wants to rest for a particular series, he is free to inform the Board. We want our players to be fit and will never compromise on players’ fitness,” he said.
