It is indeed a good victory for the West Indian team. They played well throughout the tournament and took wickets at the right moment in this finals. When the going is easy for Sri Lanka, West Indians held their nerves and won the game by a biggest margin. After a long hiatus 33 years, West Indies has won a World Cup (which includes 50-over and 60-over format). Their last victory at the World cup came way back in 1979.

19th over Two overs and 37 runs to get. Narine continues. He has bowled brilliantly with the figures of 2 for 9. Malinga plays it straight and no run. Malinga plays straight down the ground and no run. A yorker length ball and no run. Malinga plays it straight to the fielder at long-on and he is taken by Bravo and West Indies won the Twenty20 World Cup by a margin of 36 runs.

18th over 41 runs to win off three overs. Samuels into the attack. A wild swish from Malinga and no run. Malinga plays a straight drive and takes a single and it is 98 for 8. Ajantha Mendis plays a shot on the leg side and it is one run and moves to 99 for 8. Malinga takes a single and it is 100 for Sri Lanka. Ajantha mendis lofts the ball straight to the fielder at long-on Bravo. It is 100 for 9. Bravo takes a comfortable catch. It is one wicket away from a West Indian victory. Dananjaya out in the middle. Malinga on strike. He takes a single and it is 101 for 9.

17th over It is 44 from four overs. Narine into the attack. Kulasekara lifts the ball over the bowler's head and takes two runs and it is 96 for 7. Kulasekara tries to sweep and no run. Kulasekara lofts the ball over the cover but it lands safely into the hands of deep cover fielder and Sri Lanka loses their 8th wicket that too of Kulasekara. It is 96 for 8. Ajantha Mendis comes in next. Malinga on strike. Malings tries to glance and wants a quick single but no run. Malings tries to hit the ball but misses it completely and it is 96 for 8. Malinga takes a leg bye and it is 97 for 8.

16th over Rampaul into the attack. Will he finish it for West Indies? Let us wait and see. Sammy is bringing back his best bowler into the attack. Kulasekara pulls the ball straight to the deep fine-leg fielder and takes single and it is 73 for 7. A good ball from Rampaul and Malinga takes a single and it is 74 for 7. Kulasekara lifts the ball over the long-on for the first six of the Sri Lanka innings and it is 80 for 7. Kulasekara in punishing mood. He pulls the next ball from Rampaul through the mid-wicket boundary for a four. and it is 84 for 7. Kulasekara cuts the ball through the point for another boundary and it is 88 for 7. A good over for Sri Lanka. Kulasekara playing like Marlon Samuels? Oh it is a no ball and it is freehit. Kulasekara lifts the ball over the slip cardon and beats the third man fielder for four and it is really good over for Sri Lanka. It quickly moves to 93 for 7. Kulasekara 23 runs off just 9 balls. 15th over Six overs to go and 70 runs to get. It is indeed a tough task for Sri Lanka. Sammy into the attack. Kulasekara drives the ball straight to the long-off fielder and takes a single and a run out was missed with the throw at the wrong end. Thirimanne on strike with Sri Lanka on 69 for 6. A good ball from Sammy and the ball misses the bat and through to the keeper, no run. A lofted shot from Thirimanne and straight to the fielder at long-on and another wicket for Sri Lanka and it is 69 for 7. Johnston Charles takes a comfortable catch. West Indies three wickets away from a famous victory. Malinga comes in. Kulasekara takes a single and it is 70 for 7. 14th over Samuels comes into the attack. Another run out and Sri Lanka in big trouble. Perera is out and it is 64 for 6. Ramdin threw down at the non-striker's end and there ends Perera's innings. A good shot from Thirimanne and takes a single and it is 65 for 6. Kulasekara takes a single and it is 66 for 6. A good turning ball from Samuels and no run. A good over for West indies. Thirimanne takes two runs off the last ball and it is 68 for 6.

13th over Narine into the attack. Jayawardene plays the reverse shot and taken by his West Indian counterpart and he is out. Sri Lanka loses the captain at a crucial juncture and it is 60 for 4. Perera comes in. Plays a defensive shot and no run. Mendis plays a straight shot and good throw from Bravo and appeal for run out. Mendis is out and Sri Lanka loses the fifth wicket and it is 61 for five . Two wickets in one over. Sri Lanka in big trouble.Thirimanne comes in next. Lot depends on this pair. Perera cuts the ball and takes a single and it is 63 for 5. Thirimanne takes a single adn it is 64 for 5. A good over for West Indies.

12th over Jayawardene on 27 and Mendis on 2. Badree continues. Jayawardene plays reverse sweep and no run. Jayawardene plays a lofted shot and the ball sailing in the air and it drops short of Russell. Once again a lofted shot and brilliantly fielded by Bravo and it is two runs. sri Lanka moves to 57 for three. Jayawardene cuts the ball past the point fielder and takes a single and it is 58 for 3. Good ball from Badree and Mendis tries to cut the ball and one run. Jayawardene plays the last ball and takes a single and it is 60 for 3.

11th over Sri Lanka has to score 87 runs in another 10 overs at 8.7 runs per over. Darren Sammy comes into the attack. Straight on target and no run. Good second ball from Sammy and no run. Good third ball from Sammy. Mathews is playing a waiting game? Moves away and tries to hit on the leg side and he misses it completely and Mathews is out bowled. Captain Sammy strikes and Mathews is out for 1 and Sri Lanka is 51 for three. Jeevan Mendis comes in next. Mendis takes two runs off his first ball and it is 53 for 3. Mendis plays it straight ot the fielder and no run and the score remains at 53 for 3 at the end of 11 overs.

10th over Half way stage. Sri Lanka to score 91 runs to lift the T20 trophy. Badree into the attack and a wild swish from Jayawardene and no run. Jayawardene cuts the next ball straight sweeper cover and takes a single and it is 48 for one. West Indies needs to take wickets. Sangakkara is out. A lofted shot on the on-side and it went straight to deep mid-wicket fielder Pollard and Sri Lanka loses its second wicket. It is 48 for two. Mathews comes in next. He takes a single and it is 49 for two. Sangakkara is out for 22. Jayawardene takestwo runs off the next ball and Sri Lanka's fifty is up and it is 51 for 2. Jayawardene cuts the ball straight to the fielder and no run. It is 51 for 2.

9th over Gayle continues. Sangakkara cuts the ball straight to point and no run. Gives room for himself Sangakkara lofts the ball over the cover and the ball races to the boundary. 3rd over Samuels into the attack now. The batting star of the West indian innings to bowl the third over. Sangakkara on strike. Sangakkara takes a single off the first ball and it is 12 for one. An appeal for caught behind and Taufel says no and Jayawardene survives. The ball certainly went off the pad. The crowd is stunned and it is 6 for one. Kumar Sangakkara comes in next. Played it defensively and no run. Sangakkara edges the ball and it went past the second slip and goes for a four. A cheeky shot indeed. It is 10 for one. Sangakkara plays the ball on the leg side and takes a single, it is 11 for one. Rampaul is bowling beautifully. Defensive shot and no run. Another defensive shot and the score remains at 11 for one at the end of two overs.

1st over It is Dilshan and Jayawardene in the middle and all depends on this pair to give a good start. Samuel Badree opens the attack. First ball no run. Jayawardene takes a single off the next ball and it is 1 for no loss. Dilshan hits straight back to the bowler and no run. Dilshan takes a single and it is 2 for no loss. Jayawardene cuts the beautifully and it is four through the third man and Sri Lanka moves to 6 for no loss. Sri Lankans, like all Asian countries, are good players of spin. Sammy plays a yorker length delivery and the ball races down the fine leg boundary and it is four and West indies moves to 117 for 6. It is not Malinga's day. Sammy plays a big shot and mistimed it and takes a single and it is 118 for 6. Ramdin takes a single and it is 119 for 6. A big shot by Sammy and the ball lands in no-man's land and he takes two runs and it is 120 for 6. A good yorker and Sammy takes a single and it is indeed a nightmare for Malinga. 18th over Samuels pulls the first ball off Dananjaya's third over straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder and he is out. A big wicket for Sri Lanka. He is out for 78. West Indies 108 for 6. Another huge six from Samuels and reaches his fifty in style and West Indies 81 for three. Samuels hits a four off the next ball and it is 85 for 3. Samuels controls his shot and takes a single and it is 86 for 3. Pollard takes a single and another good over for West indies and it is 87 for 3.

14th over Samuels 45 and Bravo 17. Mendis into the attack and Bravo takes a single and it is 70 for 2. Samuels pulls the next ball and takes a single and it is 71 for 2. Bravo takes a single and it is 72 for 2. Samuels and Bravo runs a quick single and it is 73 for 2. A loud shout for LBW and Simon Taufel rules Bravo out and it is 73 for 3. 5th over It is Lasith Malinga. Gayle glides on the leg side and takes a single and it is 9 for 1. Samuels also takes a single off the second ball and brings Gayle on strike. It is 10 for 1. Beautiful ball from Malinga and the ball bounced and missed the bat of Gayle and goes through to the Sangakkara. Gayles takes a single and it is 11 for 1. Sri Lankan bowlers are bowling a tight line. 2nd over Chris Gayle to face the second over of the West Indian innings. It will be Kulasekara. Kulasekara bowls a widish first ball and Gayle leaves it to the keeper. Gayle plays a defensive shot and still 0 for 1. Good delivery from Kulasekara and Gayle plays a defensive shot. Defensive shot by Gayle and both the Sri Lankans are bowling a tight length to West Indies. A wild swish from Gayle and the ball goes through to the keeper. 1st over Charles to face the first ball. Angelo Mathews opens the bowling for Sri Lanka. First ball of the finals, Charles leaves the ball alone to the keeper Sangakkara. Charles plays a defensive shot off the second ball. Another defensive shot and still no run off the first three balls. Good bowling from Mathews and Charles plays another defensive shot. Charles hits the ball up in the air and a breakthrough for Sri Lanka. He is out caught by Kulasekara. Sri Lanka strikes in the very first over. Charles is out for 0 and it is 0 for one. It is Marlon Samuels in the middle. At the end of the first over it is 0 for 1.

One expects another breathtaking innings from Chris Gayle. If he gets going, it will be a tough chance for Sri Lanka. But Sri Lankans have a very good batting line-up which bats deep and are playing under the home conditions.

With the home crowd and conditions back Sri Lanka, it will be interesting to watch the tussle between >Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga. All are keen to watch how Gayle handles the bowling techniques of Malinga.

West Indies have at last entered a final of the World Cup (be it 50 overs or 20 overs) after a gap of about 30 years. Their last appearance in a World Cup final was in 1983 (60-over-format) when they were defeated by Kapil's Devils. West Indies won a major event in 2004. Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996 (50-over-format) and were the joint winners of the Champions Trophy in 2002.
