The Supreme Court on Monday refused a plea by ICC president N. Srinivasan to reinstate him at the helm of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Mr. Srinivasan’s plea, made through his counsel, came at a hearing when the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee filed an interim report seeking two months’ time to complete its investigation into the Indian Premier League betting and spot-fixing scandal.

While refusing to reinstate Mr. Srinivasan, the apex court said that the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee — probing the Indian Premier League betting and spot-fixing scandal — was yet to complete its investigation.

When the Mudgal Committee filed an interim report in the court seeking two months’ time to complete its probe, Mr. Srinivasan’s counsel and senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that extensions like this would affect the valuable rights of his client and the BCCI.

But the Bench led by Justice T.S. Thakur refused him relief. “This investigation is a tough assignment,” Justice Thakur said.

Mr. Sibal also suggested that the court ask the panel to submit a separate report on the role of office-bearers in the next 15 days. But the court directed it to complete the probe in the next two months.
