Kumar Sangakkara hit his 21st ODI century to lead Sri Lanka to 287-6 batting first in the seventh and last game of ODI series against New Zealand.

Kumar Sangakkara scored an unbeaten 113 to take Sri Lanka up to 287/6 against New Zealand in the seventh and final one-day international in Wellington on Thursday.

Tillakaratne Dilshan made 81 and shared a 71-run opening partnership with Lahiru Thirimanne (30) until the latter fell leg-efore to Corey Anderson; and then a 104-run second wicket partnership with Sangakkara, before being caught behind off paceman Tim Southee.

The tourists were headed for more than 300 when they reached 157-1 after 30 overs, but the middle and lower-order, which has been a weakness throughout the series, failed to capitalise on the good beginning.

Sri Lanka, who trail 4-1 in the series, lost a few quick wickets but Sangakkara held the innings together and brought up his 21st century in ODIs with a crisp pull shot off Mitchell McClenaghan.

The stylish left-hander, who is also on the cusp of becoming the most sussessful wicketkeeper in the 50-over format, hit 14 boundaries in his 105-ball knock.

All rounder Corey Anderson took 3-59 and fast bowler Tim Southee 2-50.

Anderson finished with three wickets for 59 runs for New Zealand.
