Gurkeerat Singh is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with M.S. Dhoni, whom he describes as his “role model”.
The 25-year-old cricketer, named in the India ODI squad to face South Africa, pointed out that Dhoni and he have a similar role for their teams.
“M.S. Dhoni is my role model. We usually bat in the same position — I for Punjab and he for India. I can, therefore, relate very well to his batting style. Whenever I watch an India match, I focus on Dhoni's batting so that I can learn from him,” said Gurkeerat.
Gurkeerat stated that when it came to bowling, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was his mentor. “I am fortunate to play alongside Harbhajan for the Punjab team. Whenever I have a problem, I take his advice. He has been very helpful,” he said.
IPL stint Karnataka paceman S. Arvind, picked for the India Twenty20 side, explained that the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) would stand him in good stead should he make the XI against South Africa.
“Competing in the IPL will be helpful because we play against world-class players and tackle the same type of pressure that is present in an international match,” Arvind said.
