Jean-Paul Duminy’s all-round performance with 51 runs and three wickets steered South Africa to a 12-run win over Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match Twenty20 series on Friday.
Batting first after winning the toss, South Africa made 115 for six in 20 overs with Duminy top scoring.
Duminy stood out with the ball too, taking 3-18 including two wickets in successive balls to help his team defend a modest score.
Kumar Sangakkara scored 59 not out but except for opener Kusal Perera, the other batsmen failed to reach double figures.
The second match will be played in Hambantota on Sunday.
