Cricket South Africa has denied rumours that Graeme Smith threatened to relinquish his captaincy if wicket-keeper Thami Tsolikile was included in the playing eleven during the current first Test against India.

A CSA press release quoted chief executive Haroon Lorgat, who said: “There is no truth at all to these malicious and damaging comments.”

The CSA’s statement follows a few stray remarks that emerged from radio-stations and over social media over the last few days.
