Sharad Pawar throws his hat into the ring

October 10, 2013 02:10 am | Updated 02:10 am IST - MUMBAI:

With the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections scheduled to be held on October 18, Sharad Pawar, the Union Agriculture Minister, filed his nomination for the president’s post here on Wednesday.

The last date for filing nominations is October 11, scrutiny on October 12 and withdrawals, if any, will happen on October 15.

The former BCCI and ICC president will represent the Parsi Pioneer Cricket Club, according to the MCA Joint Honorary Secretary Nitin Dalal.

Pawar’s nomination was proposed by P.V. Shetty, MCA Joint Hon Secretary, and seconded by Ravi Savant, MCA Hon President.

Pawar throwing his hat into the MCA elections ring happened a day after BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gopinath Munde, entered the contest by filing his nomination for the president’s post.

He will represent Stylo Cricket Club.

MCA’s previous president was the late Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh of the Congress.

MCA’s current President, Savant, took over following Deshmukh’s sudden demise due to illness last year.

He was recently named one of the BCCI Vice-Presidents and had earlier functioned as the Board Treasurer.
