James Tredwell claimed his sixth wicket of the match shortly after lunch to dismiss Bangladesh for 285 in its second innings and leave England on the verge of sweeping the two-match series on the fifth day of the second test Wednesday.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was just four runs short of a century when he was stumped by wicketkeeper Matt Prior attempting to play a short ball by Tredwell, who returned figures of 4-82 for innings.
Bangladesh played only five minutes and added 10 runs to its lunch score of 198-9 before ending its second innings with a lead of 208 runs.
Abdur Razzak was dismissed with the last ball before lunch, trapped lbw by Steven Finn for 8.
Resuming on the overnight score of 172-6, Hasan completed his half century as England struggled to make an early breakthrough.
Bangladesh added 60 runs before it lost the day’s first wicket {mdash} nightwatchman Shafiul Islam for 28, caught by Jonathan Trott off a Tredwell delivery after England took the new ball.
Bangladesh also lost Naeem Islam (3), caught by Kevin Pietersen off Tredwell.
Captain Hasan brought up his 50 off 114 balls with five boundaries and was beaten at 96. Rubel Hossain, who took the pitch with Hasan at the start of the second session, did not score.
On Tuesday, England was dismissed in its first innings for 496 in reply to Bangladesh’s 419.
England won the first test by 181 runs.
