The national selection committee, chaired by Krishnamachari Srikkanth, will meet here at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday to select the Indian squad for the ODI series against Australia beginning later this month.
The selectors, who are expected to determine the squad for the first three games, appear to have a problem of plenty with the batting.
Sehwag set to return
Earlier this year, after India’s young batsmen struggled against the short ball and Virender Sehwag injured his shoulder, they recalled Rahul Dravid to the ODI side for his experience and technical proficiency. But with Sehwag set to return to international cricket, the selectors are faced with a delicate balancing act.
Yuvraj Singh, who missed the Champions Trophy with a fractured finger, was monitored at the National Cricket Academy this week.
The selectors will decide on the left-hander’s inclusion based on the extent of his recovery.
The selectors also have important decisions to make with regard to India’s bowling, which caused considerable concern during the Champions Trophy.
The first ODI of the seven-match series will be played at Vadodara on October 25.
