Following Sachin's most recent failure, Sunil Gavaskar said it was time for him to speak to the selectors. And now, Kapil echoes his former teammate’s view.
Saddened by the criticism that Sachin Tendulkar is facing due to his lean run, former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev said the veteran batsman should speak to the selectors about his future.
Tendulkar’s poor run continued in the recently-concluded second Test against England which the visitors won in just four days despite the track being tailormade to India’s demands.
Following the 39-year-old’s most recent failure, ex-captain Sunil Gavaskar said it was time for him to speak to the selectors. And now, Kapil has echoed his former teammate’s view.
“Either selectors should speak to him or Sachin should himself have a word with them. The problem is that Sachin does not speak about it openly and the selectors have also been mum about it till now,” Kapil told ‘Aaj Tak’
“This results in confusion amongst the fans and also invites criticism from everyone, especially when Sachin performs badly. Selectors should talk to him openly. He (Sachin) is a hero and one feels really bad to see fingers being pointed at him,” he said.
After the defeat against England in the Mumbai Test, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also facing the ire of former players. Kapil said Dhoni’s place in the playing XI is in itself questionable.
“It is a big loss, indeed. We never let other teams dominate in our own conditions. But, this loss has raised some serious questions. We all know that Dhoni has performed badly in the last 8-10 Tests and going purely by performance, his place in the playing XI seems a bit doubtful.
“When you win, a captain takes the entire credit and similarly he will also be blamed when the team loses. He has let himself down and fans are feeling the same,” said the 1983 World Cup winning skipper.
Kapil said that the team is going through a transition phase after retirement of legends such as Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman but hoped that it will bounce back in the remaining two Tests against England.

I do not understand the comments made by Kapil, Gavaskar and others.
Why should Sachin talk to the selectors? And what is he supposed to
talk?
The job of the selectors is to select an Indian team that can win matches. They should select people with at least 1-2 year plan where the team performs consistently. They should also look for youngsters in whom we can invest in for the long term.
The job of the selectors is to see whether Sachin fits into the above criteria and whether he is able to deliver accordingly. If not, Sachin should be dropped. Before dropping him, the selectors can let him know about this decision. This is in accordance with the exalted status that he has enjoyed in cricket all along for being the country's premier batsman. If he chooses to not retire despite that
(e.g. Ganguly did not when he was dropped), he should be dropped. Sachin will then have to fight his way back in by playing domestic cricket like any other cricketer.
Groom youngsters. I would take a fighting loss with Youngsters than a mere win by Seniors.A plan must be in place to really get these players out of the following.
Sachin (in all forms of games), Dhoni (tests), Zaheer (in tests and 20/20), yuvraj (tests), Schewag (tests), Harbhajan (tests and one days), Raina (tests)
Again, this is in no way a dis-respect to Sachin. He is the greatest. But life has to go on.
It shows to prove the fact that now a days Cricket is becoming more as a circus than game or sports If he is not scoring runs why not drop him as is being done for others
It is right Gentleman SACHIN,MUST CALL IT A DAY, and have a
graceful exist, as has gone below the carpet.
Time for Sachin to plan an honourable exit passed two years ago. He is a mere passenger in the side for last 12 to 18 months. His coveted and much celebrated 100th Hundred against lowly ranked Bangladesh at 80% strike rate virtually cost India a place in the final. In the last 6 to 8 test matches, he is getting either bowled or trapped LBW on most occassions. Signals of aging are visible all over. If he does not see it, selctor and team management must. Ultimately, they are answerable to game's followers. It is becoming increasingly embarassing for the mighty stars of yester years to discuss his recent performances. One can see them struggling for convincing answers.
