Standing on the cusp of a Test debut when England and India face off from Sunday, Jos Buttler reflected quiet confidence.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper, who is stepping into Matt Prior’s shoes, told the media here on Friday afternoon, that he was ready for Test cricket.
Asked about his imminent debut, Buttler said: “Test cricket is my ultimate goal. Mentally I am in a better space. I am playing well and I am ready. It is also about the momentum.”
Known for his aggression with the bat, Buttler said, though he would exercise discretion, he was in no mood to shed his positive approach.
Buttler felt his early initiation into the England colours through limited-over cricket, would stand him in good stead when he steps into Tests. “It was nice to have played ODIs and T20s, I mean the same players, same backroom staff,” he said. What about Prior’s shadow? “It was really good to have a chat with him at Trent Bridge. He is a fantastic wicketkeeper. I want him to get fit. The thing is, he is 32 and I am 23 and I still have time,” Buttler said. — Special Correspondent
