Cricket from another era assumed centre-stage when former South Zone off-spinner V. Ramnarayan’s book ‘Third Man — recollections from a life in cricket’ was released here on Thursday.

The pleasant function at a city hotel was organised by Westland Ltd. and Madras Book Club.

Former India leg-spinner V.V. Kumar, the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the book and Ramnarayan’s qualities as an off-spinner.

Ramnarayan said the book was an “honest account of a cricketer’s life.” He added, “there is a book in almost every cricketer.”

Eminent writer S. Muthiah said, “The book tells us a lot of stories, tells us about the atmosphere of another era.”
