Railways fights back

Sanjay Bangar showed the way to redemption for Railways with a determined 67 off 112 balls (6x4, 3x6) over two days in the Ranji Trophy Group A first round match against mighty Mumbai.

The collective effort at run-making has resulted in Railways making a respectable 380 for eight at stumps on the third day. Nitin Bhille top-scored with 73 off 176 balls (10x4, 1x6).

Mumbai still holds the upper hand, 190 runs ahead and two wickets to be nailed for the first innings lead.

Tailenders Krishnakant Upadhaya (19 batting, 36 balls) and Anureet Singh (15 batting, 29 balls) will have a tough job and avoiding follow-on will be their first objective.

The scores: Mumbai 570 in 151 overs vs. Railways 380 for eight in 118 overs (Nitin Bhelle 73, Sanjay Bangar 67, Mahesh Rawat 68, Ashish Yadav 47, Murali Karthik 41, Ajit Agarkar three 43).

At Rohtak: Haryana 55 and 183 in 79.4 overs (Nitin Saini 46, Sandeep Singh four for 36) lost to Vidarbha 205 and 37 for two in 15 overs. Points: Vidarbha 6, Haryana 0.

At Ghaziabad: Delhi 235 and 197 for four in 48 overs (Gautam Gambhir 47, Virat Kohli 43, Mithun Manhas 63 batting) vs. Uttar Pradesh 403 in 123 overs (Mukul Dagar 116, Mohammad Kaif 91, Suresh Raina 55, Praveen Kumar 51, Sumit Narwal four for 71).

At Anantapur: Services 297 in 119 overs (Rajat Paliwal 72, Muzzaffaruddin Khalid 43, Shadab Nazar 56 n.o.) vs. Andhra 87 for six in 43 overs.
