After having emerged on the right side of three tense matches in Group 1, South Africa will have no fear of the big stage when it meets India in the semifinals of the ICC World Twenty20 on Friday, believes J.P. Duminy.
“We were not meant to win two of those games,” he said. “To win a game out of nothing is definitely something we will take confidence from.”
The all-rounder was speaking on Tuesday after South Africa’s first training session in Dhaka. All Group 1 matches were played in Chittagong, where dew exerted a major influence.
“It’s a bit of a relief that we’re in Dhaka now. Obviously, it was challenging for us. Two games now we have had to deal with the dew factor.
“But we were trying to find a way around it as there’s no need to complain or look for excuses.
“We did an exceptional job to defend that total against England. It was a big high for us,” he said.
South Africa was prepared to battle India’s spinners, whom his players were familiar with, Duminy said.
“Spinners have bowled exceptionally well against us, but we want to put up a big performance this time. We’ve sort of played against them (Indian spinners) a number of times.
“Amit Mishra has been in top form in this tournament. But all the guys have played against him and you kind of know what to expect.
“Preparation is in order. We’re definitely not going to take India lightly,” he said.
