R. Ashwin was named India’s best international cricketer for 2012-13 and will receive the Polly Umrigar award at the BCCI seventh annual awards on January 11.

The previous awardees in this category were Sachin Tendulkar (2006-07 and 2009-10), Virender Sehwag (2007-08), Gautam Gambhir (2008-09), Rahul Dravid (2010-11) and Virat Kohli (2011-12).

As per a media release by the Board, Kapil Dev has been nominated for the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, Abhishek Nayar will be given the Lala Amaranth Award for Ranji Trophy’s best all-rounder for 2012-13 season. The best overall performance award for the season will go to Mumbai Cricket Association.

The nation’s best performers in senior and junior cricket, international and domestic levels for the period between October 1-September 30, 2013 will also be honoured. Ashwin took 43 wickets and scored 263 runs in eight Tests, apart from 24 wickets in 18 ODIs, three wickets from four T20 Internationals.

The awardees (2012-13): Kapil Dev — C.K. Nayudu Award for Lifetime Achievement Trophy and Rs. 25 lakh. R. Ashwin — Polly Umrigar Award for best international cricketer trophy and Rs. 5 lakh. Abhishek Nayar of Mumbai Cricket Association — Lala Amarnath Award for best Ranji Trophy all-rounder, 966 runs in 11 matches avg. 96.6 and 19 wickets. Jiwanjot Singh Chouhan of Punjab — highest Ranji scorer, 995 runs in 10 games, avg. 66.33. Ishwar Pandey of Madhya Pradesh — highest Ranji wicket-taker, 48 wickets in eight matches. Karn Sharma of Railways — best U-25 player, 48 wkts. in seven matches in C.K. Nayudu Trophy. Axar Patel of Gujarat — best u-19 player, 830 runs in seven games, avg. 109.2, in Cooch Behar Trophy. Arman Jaffer of Mumbai — best U-16 player, 1,036 runs in eight games, avg. 94.18 in Vijay Merchant Trophy. M.D. Thirushkamini — best woman cricketer, 361 runs in four matches, avg. 120.33 in senior women’s zonals. C. Shamsuddin — best umpire in domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma — best player in 2013-14 Test series vs West Indies, 288 runs in two Tests, two centuries. Mumbai — best overall performance, 23 points. Bapu Nadkarni, Farokh Engineer, late Ekanth Solkar — special awards for outstanding contribution to Indian cricket, trophy and cheque for Rs. 15 lakh each.
