Opener K.B. Pawan's unbeaten 121 (267b, 14x4, 1x6) took Karnataka to a comfortable 273 for three on the first day of its Ranji Trophy Elite Group ‘A' match against defending champion Rajasthan at Udaipur, on Thursday.
Rajasthan elected to field and met with immediate success when Robin Uthappa was dismissed for nought.
But Pawan collaborated with Manish Pandey (58) for 88 runs for the third wicket, and added 140 with Amit Verma (59 batting) in an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand to take the visiting team to a position of strength.
At Delhi's Karnail Singh Stadium, Rohit Sharma's unconquered 133 (214b, 14x4, 1x6) helped Mumbai amass 338 for the loss of five wickets after electing to bat against Railways. Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav (88, 121b, 14x4) gathered 180 runs in a shade under 42 overs for the fourth wicket, before Yadav was trapped in front by medium-pacer Anureet Singh.
