Hafeez undergoes tests

July 07, 2015 12:02 am | Updated 12:02 am IST - Chennai:

Pakistan’s off-spinning all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez was at the ICC bio-mechanical centre in the Sri Ramachandra Sports Medicine centre here on Monday.

The 34-year-old, who was reported for suspect action during the first Test of the ongoing series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, needed to get his action tested within 21 days of the receipt of the official report and is not part of the side for the third Test.

In the city for only a few hours, Hafeez underwent tests for nearly 90 minutes under ICC accredited coach D. Vasu.

Hafeez faces a potentially difficult time ahead.

This is the second time he has been reported in 12 months, previously after the Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi last year.

During bio-mechanical tests in England last December, it was discovered that Hafeez had an arm extension of 31 degrees, way beyond the permissible limit of 15.

He underwent remedial work and got his action tested at the SRMC centre here, but it was again found to be illegal.

It was only in April this year that Hafeez’s bowling action — following further corrective measures — was cleared.
