Outstation players’ issue: TNCA may take it up with BCCI again

Friday’s draft will only have Tamil Nadu cricketers

While the BCCI has been firm in its stand that the outstation players cannot take part in TNPL, the TNCA is not quite willing to put an end to the vexing issue.

Although the TNCA officially said it had not seen the BCCI response since the internet server was down in its office, the State Association held a series of meetings here on Thursday.

As things stand, the player draft scheduled for Friday will include only the Tamil Nadu cricketers.

A top TNPL official said to The Hindu , “We will have the draft for the cricketers from the other States in about 10 days time once we have sorted out the matter with the BCCI.” The TNCA, it is learnt, is not happy with the distinction made between players registered with the State and the ‘outstation’ cricketers, and plans to write another letter to the BCCI explaining its stand.

The TNPL official said, “We will once again inform the BCCI that all the players come under the jurisdiction of the TNCA since they have been registered with the TNCA clubs. We do not see what the problem is.”

He added, “In the past, Karnataka and Goa had wanted to have players from other States in their Twenty20 leagues as guest players. Here, we have registered them as our players.”

But then, it remains to be seen as to how many players from the other States — prominent cricketers such as Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan are in the mix — will make themselves available for the players draft once the BCCI sends directives in this regard to the various State associations.

Meanwhile, the draft for the local players released by the various franchises last season will go on.

Among the interesting cricketers in the fray is M. Shahrukh Khan, a talented shot-maker who showed glimpses of his ability last season. He can be a game-changer.
