India wins #900 by 6 wickets

Hardik Pandya and his bowling colleagues crippled the Kiwis from the start. But the 71-run ninth-wicket partnership between Tim Southee and Tom Latham was not enough to prevent a powerful 85 n.o. from Virat Kohli from taking India to the first win of the ODI series with 17 overs to spare.

Welcome to the live updates of the first India-New Zealand ODI at Dharamsala on Sunday. Team India led by Virat Kohli recently trounced New Zealand 3-0 in the Test series with Ravichandran Ashwin picking 27 wickets and claimed the man-of-the-series award. Now without the spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, India are to face New Zealand in the five-match ODI series.

---------------------------------------

And that was a comfortable 6-wicket win in the end for India at Dharamsala as Virat Kohli, its lynchpin batsman, carried his team home after Amit Mishra and the seamers clipped New Zealand's wings in the first innings. Mishra took his 50th wicket today.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni makes a mention of Hardik Pandya's surprising pace and awkward action. Awkward for New Zealand too, to concede 3/31 to the debutant. And the early wickets were a boon, he acknowledges.

In his surprisingly baritone vocal tenor, Man-of-the-match Pandya appreciates getting the ODI cap from Kapil Dev. And says he was focussing more on rhythm and length than pace, even though he notched up speeds of 140-plus on occasion.

Next stop, Feroze Shah Kotla on Sunday, October 20.

Live updates
