MRF announced its association with the International Cricket Council (ICC) as global partner for the cricket World Cup next year as one of the lead sponsors, at a function here on Monday.
Speaking at the event, ICC Chairman N. Srinivasan said he was pleased with the development.
“Anyone who has grown up in Chennai, and has been involved with cricket, would relate to this development. MRF is a household name. Even when the company hadn’t become this big, it still had the same passion for cricket,” he said.
“MRF has always been consistent in its support for cricket regardless of whether it received recognition or not. In time, the company was recognised. MRF has recently had an arrangement with the BCCI, and that has made me happy. Now, the ICC has brought on board a sponsor that is idealistic and passionate about cricket.”
Srinivasan also expressed confidence that the World Cup would turn out to be an “outstanding, competitive tournament.”
“It seems only like yesterday when M.S. Dhoni hit the winning six and India lifted the World Cup. Time has flown. All of us are waiting to watch a deserving winner this time again.”
K.M. Mammen, Chairman and Managing Director, MRF Limited, called the tie-up a “historic moment for MRF”.
“This association is a testimony to MRF’s strong association with cricket. We intend to leverage this association, and strengthen our image as a global brand,” he added.
