Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir said the win over Sunrisers Hyderabad was “very satisfying” after two away losses.
The KKR captain added that it was a “team effort” as both the batting and bowling departments clicked.
“It was a very good team effort. Everyone batted well and we did equally well as a bowling unit,” Gambhir said.
Praise for Morgan
Though the skipper picked up the man-of-the-match award for his brisk 53, he showered praise on Eoin Morgan for his aggressive 21-ball 47.
“He (Morgan) is a world class player. We want to give him more time so that he plays his natural game. His knock made a huge difference and took us to the comfort zone,” said Gambhir.
The KKR captain said the team has enough resources, as was evident in the successful debut of Sri Lankan off-spinner Sachitra Senanayake.
“I always believed that he (Senanayake) has quality. He is a different bowler and when he bowls with (Sunil) Narine, it is a big plus for the team,” said Gambhir.
Too good
Sunrisers coach Tom Moody said the host proved too good for his team.
“We are still in the early stages of the tournament. We were just outplayed, but that’s the nature of T20 cricket,” he said.
“We have to give credit to Morgan for his special innings,” said Moody.
“We have some young players who are constantly learning. We have to trust them and they will deliver over time.”
