Mithali Raj to captain India versus New Zealand

Mithali Raj will lead the Indian women's team in the ODI series against New Zealand beginning here later this month. Mithali was named captain of a group of 21 ‘probables’ for the ODI series announced after the Women’s Selection Committee meeting here on Thursday.

Former India captain Purnima Rau has been named coach, BCCI sources informed The Hindu . “It is an honour to be associated with the Indian team and I will try my best to live up to the expectations,” she said.

Also announced was the India ‘A’ squad, to be led by V.R. Vanitha, for the warm-up game against the visitor. India and New Zealand are scheduled to play five ODIs and three T20s, all in Bengaluru. The warm-up match will be played on June 26, with the first ODI slated for June 28.

Kalpana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Ekta Bisht, Sneh Rana, Poonam Yadav, Niranjana Nagarajan, S. Shubhlakshmi, Devika Vaidya, Preeti Bose, Sushma Verma, V.R. Vanitha, and Latika Kumari.

India ‘A’: V.R. Vanitha (Capt.), Madhusmita Behera, Paramita Roy, Preeti Bose, Sarika Koli, Priya Punia, Devika Vaidya, S. Meghna, Tania Bhatia, Sushree Pradhan, Snehal Pradhan, and Ananya Upendran.
