India defeated Bangladesh by 113 runs in the first Test at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Thursday.
Needing 415 for an improbable victory, Bangladesh resumed the day at 67 for two on the final day. Bangladesh struggled to stay afloat in its second innings despite vice-captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s fighting hundred – 101 (114b, 17x4, 1x6) – and opener Tamim Iqbal’s 52.
The host lost three wickets in the morning session and never recovered from the setbacks while Ishant Sharma steamed in with a morning spell of 7-3-11-2. Bangladesh was eventually bowled out for 301 in 75.2 overs.
The teams will now head to Dhaka for the second Test commencing at Dhaka on January 24. Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged as the `Man of the Match’ for his century that revived the Indian first innings.
India leads the two Test series 1-0.
