Captain Angelo Mathews just missed his second century of the series and Dilruwan Perera notched a half century in his debut test as Sri Lanka moved relentlessly to 359-8 against Pakistan by tea on the second day of the decisive third test on Friday.

Mathews, who scored a career-best unbeaten 157 in the drawn first test, made a patient 91 in six hours off 256 balls before falling to Junaid Khan while attempting an expansive drive.

Perera was unbeaten on 54 at tea and completed his half century off 176 balls with seven fours and a six when he guided Khan to the third man boundary.

Sri Lanka lost the only wicket of Prasanna Jayawardene for 35 in the first session after it resumed at the overnight 220—5.

Mathews added 112 runs with Perera before Khan struck off successive deliveries.
