Mandeep Singh’s double century (211 off 306 balls, 30x4, 1x6) saw Punjab assume control over its Ranji Trophy Group A league match against Mumbai, piling up 580 runs in its first dig at the Wankhede on Sunday, the second day of play.
At stumps, Mumbai was 69 for one.
Amitoze Singh top-edged a sweep against left-arm spinner Ankit Chavan nine runs short of a century (115b, 11x4, 3x6), after he and Mandeep put on 195 runs for the fifth wicket.
Mumbai captain Ajit Agarkar also missed out on the services of Abhishek Nayar who suffered an injury during fielding and bowled only four overs.
For Mumbai, Aditya Tare opened with Kaustubh Pawar, in the absence of Wasim Jaffer and went after Punjab new ball attack straightaway.
He whacked two fours off Sandeep Sharma before top-edging a return catch to Manpreet Gony.
