England wicketkeeper Matt Prior said on Saturday there was a lot to learn from the second innings effort from Alastair Cook and Nick Compton.
“We all know that the first innings was a bit of a shocker; to lose wickets quickly is always disappointing. But as professional sportsmen we have to look forward, take the positives of the day and the way Compo and Cookie went about their business this afternoon was absolutely fantastic.
“We have to learn a huge amount from that. We are still behind in the game, but it still gives us a lot of confidence, go out and bat for a long period of time tomorrow.’’
Prior said his team was honest enough to hold hands and say they had not got it right in the first innings.
“You need one or two things to go your way as well. We need a bit of confidence. The batters were keen and wanted to get out there and prove a point. We knew that the wicket was going to turn a bit.
“I think we got a little ahead of ourselves in the first innings, and a bit panicked.
“But things are calm in the second and we have to take a lot from Compo and Cookie. It’s turning a bit and bouncing a bit, but you can bat.”
