The dangerous pitch at the Ferozeshah Kotla has put Delhi out of the race to host India’s Test match against South Africa early next year.

Delhi was a front-runner to host one of the two Test matches when South Africa visit the country in February-March for three ODIs and two Tests.

“But after the pitch fiasco that led to the abandonment of the fifth and final India-Sri Lanka ODI on Sunday, Ferozeshah Kotla is now out of the race,” a BCCI source said.

Kotla’s future as a venue for international matches now hang in balance and ICC sought an explanation from the BCCI on the episode before it determines its action which may earn the venue a one or two year ban.
