Kolkata club cricketer sustains head injury

Even before the cricket fraternity could come to terms with Keshri tragedy, this accident has left them shocked and in disbelief.

Just a day after former Bengal Under-19 captain Ankit Keshri lost his life due to a freak on-field injury, another young club cricketer Rahul Ghosh has been hospitalised after being hit on the head during a second division league match.

The incident happened during a match between Police AC and Vijay Sports Club — both second division teams in the CAB league.

Fielding at cover region, Ghosh was hit below his ear after he took his eyes off to an awkward bounce during the 2nd division League match at the Videocon School of Cricket ground in Salt Lake this morning.

The condition of Ghosh is said to be “stable but not out of danger”.

Giving a medical bulletin, medical director of Nightingale Hospita Dr. Sabyasachi Sen later said: “We have not found anything in the CT Scan and MRI. There’s no haemorrhage or internal injury. But we have kept him under observation in ICU.”

Devastated by the death of Keshri, who died at the same hospital three days after he was hit while taking a catch, the CAB is leaving no stone unturned.

“We don’t want to take any chances. I’m told he’s stable but unless we’re very sure of his condition he’ll be kept under observation,” CAB joint-secretary Subir Ganguly said.

Former U-19 Bengal captain and East Bengal player Keshri, on Monday, died of cardiac arrest owing to a head injury sustained during a CAB Senior one-day knockout match against Bhowanipore SC on April 17 at the JU second campus ground in Salt lake.
