Karthick hits 215; memorable day for Prabhu

Vijay’s K.B. Arun Karthick progressed to his second double century of the season on the second day of the TNCA first division Elite Group match against Globe Trotters here on Tuesday.

Karthick — he went past 700 runs for the season — notched up 215 (346b, 27x4) in a Vijay total of 524 for seven declared. There were useful contributions too from the twins B. Indrajith (72, 154b, 6x4) and B. Aparajith (61, 59b, 4x4, 2x6).

Trotters was 103 for one in reply, with M. Mukunth and M.S. Washington Sundar batting with 46 runs each. Sundar has earlier scalped three with his off-spin.

Jolly Rovers off-spinner M. Prabhu went past 350 wickets in the league and took his tally for the season to 28 when he claimed five for 40 against Young Stars. Prabhu and left-arm spinner D.T. Chandrasekhar (four for 39, season tally 29) combined to dismiss the opposition for 129, giving Rovers a 65-run lead.

Rovers was 144 for four in reply at stumps; K.H. Gopinath made 54 (62b, 7x4). With three wickets, left-arm spinner M. Suresh Babu took his tally in the match so far to eight.

Alwarpet posted a fighting 417 against Grand Slam with P. Deepak (77, 104b, 9x4, 1x6) and Anand Subramanian (71, 148b, 6x4, 2x6) coming up with valuable knocks. Paceman P. Amarnath, who scalped two, took his 200th wicket in the league. Grand Slam was struggling at 78 for three at close.

Inclement weather and wet ground conditions led to the day’s play being abandoned in all the three Plate Group contests.

The scores: Elite Group, Day two: At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 194 & 144 for four in 46 overs (K. H. Gopinath 54) vs Young Stars 129 in 60.3 overs (M. Prabhu five for 40, D.T. Chandrasekar four for 39).

At MRF-Pachaiyappa’s: Vijay  524 for seven decl. in 140 overs (K. B. Arun Karthick  215, M. Kaushik Gandhi 80, B. Indrajith  72, B. Aparajith  61) versus Globe Trotters 103 for one in  33  overs (K. Mukunth  46 batting,  M.S. Washington Sundar 46 batting).      

At Murugappa: Alwarpet 417 in 129.2 overs (S. Karthik 66, J Gowjith Subash 97, P. Deepak 77, Anand Subramanian 71) versus Grand Slam 78 for three in 34 overs.

Plate Group:At Southern Railway: Southern Railway Institute 180 for five versus AG’s Office. No play on day two due to wet ground conditions.

At SPIC-YMCA: IOB 126 for eight versus Aruna. No play on day two due to wet ground conditions.  

At CPT-IP: India Pistons 265 for seven versus UFCC (T. Nagar). No play on day two due to wet ground conditions.
