South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has scored second most Test runs during the decade when he made 75 in his side’s second Test against England here, surpassing Rahul Dravid.

Kallis hit 75, including seven fours, in his 132-ball innings to amass 8,627 in this decade. Only Australian captain Ricky Ponting has made more runs than him at 9,446.

Captain Graeme Smith lauded Kallis for his achievement but felt that the search for a replacement needed to be intensified, especially in the wake of concerns about a rib injury that left the all-rounder out of the first Test.

“Jacques is one of the best players in the world,, and (almost) 10,000 test runs and 300 wickets is not something achieved lightly,” Smith said.

“It’s an incredible luxury to be able to call on a player of his calibre for more than a decade, but we realise that he will not always be there. That’s why we started this year to consider multi-faceted options,” Smith added.
