England bowler James Anderson has taken his 384th test wicket to break the national record held by Ian Botham. The 32-year-old Anderson surpassed Botham’s haul of 383 wickets by removing West Indies batsman Denesh Ramdin on Friday, on the final day of the first test in Antigua. Anderson set the new record in his 100th test. Earlier on Thursday, England set the host an improbable 438 for victory.

While the pitch has held up well over the four days, it is England which remains favourite to complete its first-ever Test match victory in Antigua. The tourists’ rush for runs in the afternoon session resulted in a declaration at 333 for seven, Gary Ballance getting to 122, his fourth Test century.
