Video analysis has played a crucial role in the evolution of field placements for both batsmen and bowlers.

“Basically, a batsman reacts to the field set for him. He tries to beat it and this sets the chain of events. It is a battle of wits,” said former India team video analyst and SportsMechanics CEO S. Ramakrishnan to The Hindu .

“Both the batsmen and the bowlers look at the video footages, seek answers and come up with winning strategies,” he said.

The outside-off-reverse-sweep innovation to yorkers you see these days is a result of the batsman trying to outwit bowlers attempting yorkers, close to the wide line, outside the off-stump. It is a brilliant innovation and has forced bowlers to think. Here video analysis certainly came in handy,” said Ramakrishnan.

He added, “Of course, the batsmen and the bowlers require the skill to pull it off.”
