The Income Tax Department officials on Thursday continued with their nation-wide investigation into the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisees. I-T officials visited the premises of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and the offices of GMR Group, which owns the Delhi Daredevils, here.
The survey that started in the afternoon was going on till late in the evening, and about 30 officials belonging to the I-T investigation wing and field officers went through the documents.
“The search is a part of all-India operations of I-T department and it is restricted to the ongoing IPL investigations only,” a senior I-T department official told The Hindu . Since it is not a comprehensive issue, we hope to wind up search in the premises of these two companies soon, the official added.
Another official said it was too early to disclose what documents were being probed or taken by the officials.
A spokesperson of the Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd., the franchisee for Royal Challengers Bangalore, confirmed that I-T officers visited the offices of the RCB on Thursday. “We are cooperating fully with the team and have provided or providing whatever information or details that have been sought from us,” the spokesperson in a statement said.
The GMR Group clarified that the I-T officials visited their offices in Bangalore. They made certain enquiries and left satisfied with the information received, it said.
