Revealing that India had been surprised by the way pitches have behaved in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, R. Ashwin claimed the team would not focus too much on the track ahead of its crucial match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday.

The off-spinner said he would enjoy the additional burden that may fall upon him, if the quicker bowlers were unable to improve their form.

“I feel it is a really exciting prospect to do something that is not in your zone. I should be enjoying bowling in the death or Power Play. Everybody is not going to have the best of days, so we got to really stand up for each other.”

George Bailey sympathised with the bowlers, while adding that planning has acquired greater importance in light of the recent rule changes in ODI cricket.

“I like to have conversations particularly with the bowlers because I think they are the ones that you can have the most influence on in a game. The batters are out there on their own.

“You got to try and keep a smile on the bowlers’ faces. The challenge is to be really consistent with their approach mentally.

“Certainly, the group that we have at the moment, I will back each and every one of them every time. I think they are a very good bowling attack and can knock any side over in the world,” he added.
