The Indian Premier League (IPL) has touched many lives. Shane Watson is grateful for its role in his development as a player and person.
“I started under Shane Warne for Rajasthan Royals. It was a great season for me. Then, there are friends you make away from cricket and those on the field at other times. These incredible relationships are part of the IPL.”
Role changeWatson’s role in the Jaipur franchise has changed, from an all-rounder familiar with Warne’s line of thinking, into a leader carrying forward former captain Rahul Dravid’s legacy. “I love playing for my country and winning.
“I like playing for my team in the IPL, too, when not representing Australia. Performing in the IPL is an opportunity to inspire other cricketers,” he said.
The Aussie all-rounder, a member of the World Cup-winning squad, said: “We have several match-winners in the squad. At one time, the team was considered one of the underdogs. Now, we have the batsmen to tackle any situation we are likely to face. As captain, this is a very exciting time for me.”
