Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad was all praise for fast bowler Vinay Kumar, who has done well in the first two matches. “Vinay was fantastic. We have to appreciate him for taking the responsibility of bowling the last over of a match,” Prasad said, at a press conference, here on Monday.
Asked if he had worked with him prior to the game, Prasad said: “Vinay has represented India, so he knows what he is doing. We talk strategies on bowling in the final overs, but it’s all about execution and he has done that extremely well.”
The bowling coach defended the decision to hand the Super Over to Vinay in the team’s defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Unfortunate
“It was just unfortunate that he could not do well. But that happens and we don’t want to point fingers at anybody. He was given the ball simply because he has been our best bowler,” he said.
On RCB’s over-reliance on Chris Gayle, Prasad said: “To a certain extent, we do rely on Gayle, but we have fantastic firepower in our batting. Virat Kohli was striking the ball well, and it was unfortunate that he got out. It’s just early days.”
