Pune Warriors India captain Angelo Mathews, chosen as the leader following Michael Clarke’s withdrawal from IPL-6 due to an injury, has decided to step down as the skipper for the reminder of the tournament.

In a statement released by PWI, Mathews said: “It is in our best interests that the captaincy is not switched frequently as we strive to achieve the best balanced team for each different opponent. Given that Aaron (Finch) is likely to play in all our remaining games, it is logical that he continues to be our captain.”

The Sri Lankan all-rounder, named to lead his country in the forthcoming Champions Trophy, was the third captain for PWI in 2013. Ross Taylor and Finch were tried out. Incidentally, the Pune franchise has been shuffling leaders in an attempt to find the right man to lead the squad.

Yuvraj Singh was the captain in 2011 while Saurav Ganguly and Steve Smith were captains in 2012.
