Mallya welcomes SC order on IPL auction

Claiming ignorance about the findings of the Justice Mudgal report, Bangalore Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya on Tuesday said he was happy that the IPL 7 players’ auction will go on as per schedule.

“I am not privy to the report by Justice Mudgal. But the fact is IPL auction is going ahead and there is no court restraint. The life must go on,” Mr. Mallya told reporters outside Parliament.

A Supreme Court-appointed committee, headed by former Punjab and Haryana Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal, had indicted Gurunath Meiyappan for betting and passing of team information during IPL matches in its report on Monday.

But the court said the IPL auction will go ahead as scheduled.

“Any decision taken in the IPL auction of players should be without prejudice to the order that may be passed by this court,” a bench comprising justices A K Patnaik and F M I Kalifulla had said while putting the matter for further hearing on March 7.

The two-day players’ auction will begin tomorrow in Bangalore.
