Mumbai Indians stalwart Harbhajan Singh described his teammate as a “bit of a character”, when asked about Kieron Pollard wearing a tape around his mouth. The West Indian was seen with the tape in the early part of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s unsuccessful chase here on Sunday.

“The umpire had asked him to stay quiet. That is why he did it. He is a bit of a character and likes doing things like this. The IPL brings out the West Indian flavour.

“Wearing the tape was something different and unique,” Harbhajan said.

The off-spinner’s three-wicket haul earned him the Man-of-the-match award. “Every game gives me an opportunity to make a comeback into the Indian side. At the end of the day, we all want to play for India,” he said.

The 34-year-old praised former Australia captain and MI coach Ricky Ponting for staying positive through the four-match winless run the team suffered before Sunday.

“He has been very positive, whether we win or lose. I hope that under Ponting’s guidance, the youngsters will learn how to bat in different situations. For someone like Unmukt Chand, interacting with Ricky will make him a better player,” he said.

RCB all-rounder David Wiese defended the side’s decision to field first.

“I think it was the right decision. We always back our batting line-up to chase down totals.

“But, it is extremely difficult to chase down anything over 200,” Wiese said.
