Not a bad start, says Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir said there are ups and downs in any tournament, and a loss does not detract from the fact that his side is one of the most consistent teams in the IPL.

“We did not play well in the last match. But we have been the most consistent side in the last two-three years,” Gambir said here on Tuesday. “We have won one and lost one so far, and I think it is not a bad start.”

Asked about Sunil Narine’s modest start to this season, Gambhir said: “He (Narine) is still a pretty dangerous guy. Here the wickets are pretty flat. So, let us see the entire season, I am sure he will turn out to be a very successful bowler.”

The KKR captain said the absence of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has returned home for Bangladesh’s series against Pakistan would necessitate some rethinking. “He is an important member and now we will have to change our combinationHopefully, we will be able to use his services again in the last two matches of the league and in the playoffs,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir also announced that his charity, the Gautam Gambhir Foundation, would support the Indian ice hockey team.
