Having grabbed the spotlight after his assault on Rajasthan Royals, Sarfaraz Khan had to face the press. It is a far easier task than countering mean fast bowlers but t

The 17-year-old RCB batsman nervously wiped the sweat off his face, politely hinted that questions should be in Hindi and opened up a bit here on Friday.

Excerpts:

The journey so far:

I didn’t think I would be a part of an IPL team at the auction because I am only 17. I was really happy that I got picked, but didn’t think I would get a game this year. But Dan (Vettori) sir gave me the opportunity to play in the XI, so it was nice.

The breezy unbeaten 45 against Royals:

I got a lot of confidence from that knock. It will be beneficial for the future for me and the team. I’m hoping there are more of the same. It felt very nice. Everyone was supporting me. Dan sir asked me to continue playing in the same fashion.

Virat Kohli’s praise:

He said, “Haanji, bhaiyya”. I felt really nice to play alongside big players like A.B. de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli. AB supports me a lot and tells me what to do. He backs me a lot. When I’m nervous, he sits and talks to me. It feels really nice.

The road ahead:

I have seen quite a few players like Sanju Samson, who were picked for India. I would also want that. This was only my first knock, but I hope I continue to play in the same way and hope the selectors like me. Anyway after the IPL, I have my Under-19 World Cup.

His favourite IPL player:

A.B. de Villiers.
