Rearguard action from Wiese not enough to beat MI

Royal Challengers downed at Chinnaswamy by 18 runs.

In another high-scoring thriller that saw a late rearguard blitz from David Wiese and Iqbal Abdulla, Mumbai Indians had enough in the bank to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground. At the half way mark of their innings, Bangalore needed 150 runs off the last 10 overs, and they ended up losing the game by just 18 runs.

Mumbai lost their way at the top. Even as many disappointed RCB fans began to make their way out of the stadium, some brutal late-order resurgence from David Wiese and Iqbal Abdulla took RCB within reach of the MI's 209.

Though Mumbai Indians lost Parthiv Patel early after he got a start, Lendl Simmons and Unmukt Chand put on a fantastic stand of counter-attacking batting as they tore into the Bangalore bowling.

Even after Simmons went, Rohit came in to blast a quickfire cameo with Pandya too weighed in with a few lusty blows as Mumbai went above 200. On debut for RCB, David Wiese took four-wicket haul though he did get a pasting.

Overall, Bangalore has been set a big target to chase but if there is a venue where you can chase this kind of scores, it's the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Kohli - "We're looking to bowl first and restrict them to a score which we can chase later on. The wind sails smoothly late in the evening and the pitch is better to bat especially while chasing. Sammy, Abbott, Mandeep and Harshal miss out. Wiese, Rossouw, Bisla and Abdullah are in".

Rohit - "We would have fielded too. But then now it's about putting runs on the board. Can afford to drop games anymore and it's time to step up to the plate. We have made a few changes to the squad. Hopefully we can settle into a good rhytm today. Unfortunately Corey Anderson got injured in the last game, Mitchell McClenaghan replaces him. Unmukt Chand is back as well."
