The managing committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to address all of the issues listed in a communication from IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal as the reasons for shifting the final of this season’s tournament out of Mumbai.
MCA vice-president Ravi Savant released a statement, which said: “The managing committee decided to accept all conditions, including ensuring seating arrangements for all franchise owners. Since a playoff is their (BCCI’s) match, they can invite whosoever they want. We can’t have a say in it. The reply to that effect has been sent to the IPL chairman.”
The MCA will also send a formal request to the IPL about sticking to the tradition of the home stadium of the defending champion — in this case, Mumbai Indians — hosting the final.
“(Now that all the conditions have been met), we hope the IPL will bring the final back to Mumbai,” he said.
In response to a protest letter from MCA president Sharad Pawar, the IPL chairman had listed the reasons behind the decision to move the IPL-7 final to the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore.
One of the reasons Biswal had stated in his reply to the MCA pertained to permissions to invite the owners of all eight franchises for the final. Shah Rukh Khan, the KKR owner, had been banned from entering the Wankhede stadium for five years from May 2012 onwards.
Now the MCA decision means that suspension stands lifted.
