Imran replaces Sohail in Pakistan squad

Fast bowler Imran Khan will replace the injured Sohail Khan for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

After consulting fellow selectors and having sought Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan’s approval, chief selector Haroon Rashid named Imran as Sohail’s replacement.

“After Dr. Sohail Saleem, head of PCB’s Sports Medicine Department, confirmed that Sohail Khan has still not been able to recover sufficiently to be able to take any part in the two Tests against Bangladesh, I discussed the matter with my fellow selectors Azhar Khan, Salim Jaffer and Kabir Khan, and all selectors were unanimous on Imran Khan as replacement for Sohail Khan for the Test series against Bangladesh,” said Haroon.

Since Imran was part of the A team to visit Sri Lanka, his Test recall necessitated a replacement there too. Already amongst the reserves, Ziaul Haq has been drafted in the A squad to fill that slot for the entire tour of Sri Lanka.

The two Tests against Bangladesh will be played at Khulna (April 28-May 2) and Mirpur (May 6-10).
