N. Srinivasan announced here on Thursday that he would run for the post of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) president, for one more year, at the Annual General Meeting to be held in Chennai on September 29.
According to the BCCI memorandum and rules and regulations, and by principle of rotation, the South Zone is entitled to a third year.
Mr. Srinivasan, who was elected president in 2011, has to be proposed and seconded by full members of the Board from the same zone.
Theoretically, a contest can happen should another candidate — fulfilling other criteria like being a past office-bearer and having attended at least two AGMs — throw his hat in the ring. So the choice of the candidate remains in the hands of six full members from the South Zone and only in the event of two nominations from the zone, the other 24 full members come into play.
