Explosive left-hander Yuvraj Singh has said he is fit and looking forward to a successful tour in England in July.
Speaking to reporters during a programme on UTV here on Wednesday, Yuvraj also hoped that the other senior players who were recovering from injury would be available for selection for the crucial tour.
“I am 100 per cent fit and looking forward to the tour. I am sure most of the other seniors who are battling injuries would also be fit for the tour,” said Yuvraj, who had opted out of the ongoing West Indies tour owing to a respiratory infection.
Looking back at the World Cup triumph, which was his last outing for the country, Yuvraj said India needed the victory to realise a long-cherished dream.
“India needed the victory. Everybody's wishes came true and the dream became a reality. It was a very important win and the biggest achievement for all of us,” he said.
Important lesson
The prolific middle-order batsman also said that adversity showed him the way to success.
Referring to the time he was dropped from the Asia Cup squad before the World Cup Yuvraj said, “It was the toughest phase of my career and I learnt an important lesson.
“It was very tough to tackle injury, sickness and ouster together,” he said.
“After we won the World Cup, I realised that when in the limelight everybody is with you but there will be nobody in times of trouble. It was a big lesson for me,” he added.
About getting to play with his former captain and mentor Sourav Ganguly towards the final stages of IPL-IV, Yuvraj said he tried to repay some of the support he had got from him earlier in his career. “He (Ganguly) had supported me all through his career. It was time to support him,” he said.
“Ganguly has so many centuries to speak about his ability and he does not have to prove anything to anybody. We have some plans for the next season (of IPL), I'm sure we will do well,” said Yuvraj.
